5 Life Lessons From the Blogger Behind Stop It Right Now

"Wearing jumpsuit. Have to pee."

“Wearing jumpsuit. Have to pee.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all manage the success of our dreams by accident? That’s how it seems to have happened for Jayne Min of the popular blog and Instagram feed Stop It Right Now. Her tomboy style and sense of humor attracted readers and viewers in droves, and, to her surprise, her Celine hommage skateboards went viral thanks to Kanye West. Most recently, she’s working with Calvin Klein on the #mycalvins campaign, along with Kendall Jenner.

The South China Morning Post learned some interesting tidbits about what led to Lim’s wild success. After all, when it comes to success in the fashion industry, I don’t really believe in accidents.

1. Unemployment can lead to great things.

“I was in between jobs as an apparel designer at that time, and always had images to scrapbook for research. So I wanted to organise them somewhere, and quickly made a blog as a result. It was very much a “What do I name it?” kind of moment.”

2. If you’re going to make something really cool, might as well make a a bunch of them.

“I was really into a Céline print so I decided to use it, and as things turned out it was more cost effective to print many of them versus just one set for myself. So I made a few of them, and people just wanted them.”

3. Tilda Swinton is the patron saint of fashion nerds. Long live Swinton!

“If I saw Tilda Swinton on the street I would fan-girl over her. I appreciate women who have some sort of technical skill or who are hard working. I like people who have substance.”

4. Move every three years.

“If I didn’t live in Los Angeles, I would live in a different city three years at a time. I don’t like the idea of forever, so it’s nice to keep it fresh.”

5. If not a fashion icon, she would probably be a carpenter.

“If I didn’t work in fashion I would probably do something with my hands. I like building things and getting my hands dirty and making things out of wood.”
